The Power of Collaborative Packaging Campaigns

Explore the transformative impact of collaborative packaging campaigns in fostering sustainability and innovation. Discover some successful initiatives in India.

In today’s rapidly evolving consumer landscape, sustainability has become a central focus for businesses across industries. Among the myriad of strategies adopted to reduce environmental impact, collaborative packaging campaigns have emerged as a powerful tool. These campaigns leverage partnerships between companies to create innovative, eco-friendly packaging solutions that benefit both the environment and the bottom line.

Successful Collaborative Packaging Initiatives in India

Parason and ABB India

Parason, a prominent manufacturer and supplier of pulp and paper machinery, has entered into a collaboration with ABB in India to automate and enhance the production of sustainable and biodegradable packaging solutions. The partnership aims to support Parason’s customers in reducing their dependence on single-use plastics and Styrofoam packaging materials. These environmentally friendly packaging solutions, made from molded fiber, find widespread application across various industries including restaurants, cafes, food catering, transportation, travel, and industrial canteens.

By integrating ABB robots with Parason’s machinery, the collaboration seeks to facilitate the efficient manufacturing of packaging products derived from agricultural waste, thereby creating fully eco-friendly compostable packaging solutions.

Coca-Cola and Zepto

Coca-Cola India and Zepto have recently announced an expansion of their partnership in India, demonstrating their shared commitment to promoting plastic circularity. The ‘Return and Recycle’ initiative, launched in November 2022 as a pilot project in selected areas of Mumbai, has been instrumental in establishing a systematic process for the collection of PET bottles with 100% traceability, thereby enhancing plastic waste management.

During the 60-day pilot project, approximately 100 kilograms of PET bottles were collected and recycled, according to company reports. Zepto and Coca-Cola’s collaboration aims to advance the digitalization of their collection strategy by harnessing e-commerce platforms. Furthermore, the collection bins are installed across numerous Zepto delivery hubs in key cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, and Kolkata.

Nestlé a+ and Tetra Pak

Nestlé a+ partnered with Tetra Pak to introduce ‘Cartons to Classroom,’ an innovative initiative in India. It was about recycling and repurposing used beverage cartons to create classroom furniture for underprivileged schools. The initiative was first launched in Mumbai. It’s the beginning of a long-term collaboration between Nestlé a+ and Tetra Pak, with the support of retail partners like Reliance Retail and RUR Greenlife, a social enterprise. Tetra Pak’s paper-based beverage cartons are recyclable and can be transformed into useful items such as classroom furniture. The success of increasing carton recycling largely depends on environmentally conscious consumers.

To ensure accessibility to all Nestlé a+ consumers, 54 collection points will be established across Reliance Smart Superstores and Sahakari Bhandar outlets in Mumbai. Through these collection points, Nestlé a+ aims to gather over 1,000,000 cartons, which will be recycled into composite sheets to create more than 100 school desks.
